In a world where smartphones are becoming more powerful and laptops more mobile, the lines between the two classes of devices are blurring. NexDock XL, a new product that just hit the market, might further blur these lines. This is a device that turns a compatible smartphone into a fully functional 15.6-inch laptop with a 120Hz touchscreen. In doing so, the device gets rid of memory, processor or operating system and simply connects to the smartphone, either via USB-C or wirelessly.

Technical specifications and features

The NexDock XL is equipped with a 57 Wh battery which is said to provide up to seven hours of battery life. It adds a USB-A port, a 3.5mm headphone jack and a microSD card reader to the features of the connected smartphone. Additionally, the device’s display can also be controlled via a mini-HDMI port. With an overall height of 16.6 millimeters and a weight of 1.91 kilograms, the NexDock XL is thicker and heavier than many ultrabooks, but it still offers impressive portability.

Pricing and availability

The NexDock XL is available for pre-order now via the manufacturer’s website for $349. The manufacturer also ships to Germany and Austria. However, the keyboard only comes with a QWERTY layout in ANSI format. Buyers should factor in shipping and import charges in addition to the purchase price.
