October 1, 1924 is considered the birth of radio in Austria. The ORF has produced numerous special programs about this. Following CultureMonday, ORF 2 (11:15 p.m.) will show Heidi Neuburger-Dumancic’s TV documentary, in which she asks about the meaning and role of radio as the first electronic mass medium and its influence on social developments in the cultural sector. Radio legends have their say, forgotten treasures are brought out and the role of radio as a source of inspiration for art and culture is highlighted. Contemporary radio production is also not neglected.
To mark 100 years of radio plays, ARD, under the leadership of Bavarian Radio, has curated 100 historic radio plays from the years 1929 to 2023. Now the media library “100 out of 100: The Radio Play Collection” is complete and all 100 episodes are available in the ARD audio library.
