Twitch: new “Charity” option to raise donations

Twitch does in charity. The video game distribution platform wants to facilitate fundraising, often launched by streamers. The new option will help an association of their choice. We explain to you.

Philanthropy on social networks is still as topical as ever. After Instagram, which allows you to display fundraising for an association on your own profile, it’s now Twitch’s turn to get into the business of solidarity. The video game distribution platform has just unveiled its new “Charity” option, which will allow you to set up a stream to collect donations more easily on the platform.

Launched with a handful of users on Twitch, the feature will offer a limited list of associations at first but which should grow in the coming weeks.

How it works?

Available in a new tab, “Charity” aims to facilitate the launch of a broadcast intended to collect donations for a cause by centralizing the tasks to make the process more transparent and above all less complex than before. Users will be able to choose to activate the functionality “in a few clicks”, select the association of their choice and fill in the amount to be reached. “All donations are tracked in your activity feed to achieve the goal you set for yourself,” the platform explained.

Above all, the option will make transactions more transparent and less complicated. By activating the “Charity” mode, Internet users will be able to discover a new “Donate to Charity” button directly visible on the broadcast. Donations will go directly through PayPal Giving Fund, which will return the amounts after deducting payment processing fees.

Twitch reminds that the platform does not take any commission on these donation collections. A real time saver for creators, since the fundraising process remained complicated to manage. Between the pledges and the payment of the sums, the creators then had to find ways to collect the donations, either by going through another platform, or by invoices attesting to the donation, or directly by donating the money received by the subscribers. .

Streams dedicated to raising money for charities are commonplace on Twitch. The Z Event, which aims to raise funds for a different association each year, has raised more than 21 million euros since its creation in 2016. Opération Enfant Soleil in Quebec offers the event play to healwhich raises donations using popular streamers on Twitch.
