In light of the Russian troop invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Twitter has stopped pushing and recommending “government accounts from countries that limit access to free information” and that are involved in war or other armed conflicts, so the policy has changed. would instantly apply to Russian government accounts.

With the decision, content related to Russian government profiles are no longer recommended in searches, feed or other areas of the platform. Accounts related to personalities such as President Vladmir Putin and Russia’s foreign minister had their reach limited on the platform.

Now, experiments carried out by the British newspaper indicate that Russian government accounts have returned to the top of certain search results, in addition to appear in lists of suggested profiles when browsing the social network with a new account.

A former Twitter employee told the The Telegraph that last year’s measures really seem to have been reversed. “It would be extremely unlikely that this change happened accidentally, or without the knowledge and direction of the company’s team,” according to the source who preferred to remain anonymous.

Twitter has yet to comment on the matter. Any attempt to contact the company by the press results in an automatic response email with a poop emoji.
