Elon Musk’s social network now allows you to send voice notes via direct messages. Here’s how it works.
Elon Musk is continuing his plans to make Twitter Direct Messages a worthy alternative to WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger or Instagram. The social network has notably added another function that the most popular messaging apps have been integrating for some time: voice notes.
The ability to send voice messages via Twitter Direct Messages is actually nothing new. The social network has been testing it for some time in certain markets, but it has not yet been rolled out globally. From today, any Twitter user in Europe or the United States can therefore use the function by simply going to the direct messages section and clicking the button next to the text box.
Twitter does, however, set a time limit for each voicemail message, with a maximum of 140 seconds – longer than Instagram, but no less than WhatsApp. Unlike the two social networks, to send a voice note, just click once on the icon that appears on the screen; you don’t have to press and hold the button.
The recording ends after the maximum time or by tapping on the “stop” icon. It is possible to listen to the message before sending it. Unfortunately, Twitter does not provide a button to read the message at a faster or slower speed.

Voicemail on Twitter isn’t the only WhatsApp-like feature the social network has added recently. The platform also enables encryption in direct messages, although for now it’s exclusive to Blue users and doesn’t seem to be working properly. By the way, Elon Musk himself said in a tweet that this feature should not yet be trusted.

Twitter, meanwhile, also lets you react to messages with any other emoji, a feature that’s been present in WhatsApp for quite some time now. To react to a message with an emoji, simply long-press on it and select the “Add reaction” option. Then just select one of the available emojis or click the side button to access the full list.
Meanwhile, Elon Musk’s social network continues to add new features exclusive to Twitter Blue users. These include the ability to post videos up to two hours in length, a feature many responded to by posting entire movies.
