On a day with adverse weather conditions due to the rise in temperature and the strong north wind, the fight against several fires in the province of Córdoba continued on Tuesday.
At night, the head of Civil Defense of the Province, Diego Concha, informed Chain 3 that the firefighters managed to contain two fronts -Unquillo and Ámbul-, while those registered in the area of San Antonio de Arredondo and Villa Giardino remain active.
Active fire between Carlos Paz and San Antonio de Arredondo
The firefighters fight the flames hard, but the fire does not give truce and devastates the mountain of the area located between Villa Carlos Paz and the town of San Antonio de Arredondo, in the Punilla Valley of Córdoba.
“The troops worked in the area of the Franciscan novitiate and the Benedictine Sisters’ convent. Six houses had to be protected, but they were not damaged. Work continues in the sector, ”he told Chain 3 Diego Concha, of Civil Defense.
“The front that was going to Las Jarillas is contained, but tanker trucks will have to be placed at dawn to bring tranquility to the town,” he added.
Thanks to the efforts of the troops working in that focus, it was possible to save a wooden house, which was about to reach the fire coming down from the mountain.
The Secretary of Risk Management of the Province, Claudio Vignetta, told Chain 3: “The fire stopped at the edge of the property. The wind is descending from the mountains. We will have a hard work ”.
In another area of this great igneous front in Punilla, the flames affected more than 700 hectares in the Estancia El Rosal, in Falda del Cañete, and forced a family group of six to evacuate themselves.
The manager of the place, Miguel Ángel Medina, told Chain 3 who will be standing guard to take care of 150 cows and 20 bulls. “Almost the entire field was consumed. If the flames reach the animals, we lose everything, “he said.
In the area, they cut the E34 route, which communicates with Falda del Carmen, and the E36, which leads to the Observatory.
On Monday, 26 people -21 adults and 5 minors- had been evacuated by the fire that started in the Sol y Río neighborhood.
An evacuated neighbor had told Chain 3 who observed a suspicious situation before the flames started: “The dogs barked and then the fire started.” In that sense, the Justice would have individualized three children between 10 and 11 years old, who would have started the fire.
Fire contained in Los Quebrachitos (Unquillo)
Firefighters managed to control the flames in the Unquillo area, as detailed by Diego Concha, director of Civil Defense for the province.
At least 40 troops from different regions worked in that sector of the province.
For his part, Pablo Calderón, president of the Volunteer Firefighters of Unquillo, had earlier pointed out to Chain 3 that the situation is “painful”.
“It hurts us, Unquillenses, because the fire is inside the reserve. At this time, a large part of the fire is on guard of ashes and there is still an activity behind the Capilla del Buffo, but we believe that, if conditions are favorable, we will have it contained with hydrant planes, “he said.
Active fire in Villa Giardino
At least 90 firefighters, with the help of four hydrant planes, continue to fight an outbreak that had been unleashed this Tuesday morning in the vicinity of Garden Villa.
The fire chief in the area, Eduardo Molinari, reported that a house caught fire “due to the gas hose in the tube that helped to burn.”
In addition, there was another house that was partially burned, as detailed by Diego Concha, from Civil Defense.
Eight people had to be evacuated from the Los Quimbaletes area, but all were able to return to their homes.

In the place, firefighters from regional 11 worked, hydrant planes and six people were evacuated, but then they returned to their homes.
There was also a front, which has already been extinguished, on the Camino a las Altas Cumbres, between La Posta and El Cóndor.
