Only, as USA Today reports, that same year, a request for reinforcement was sent to the Los Angeles police station, with the aim of quickly intervening for a theft. Logically, the officers on duty and available respond present. At least logically, because two of them, Louis Lozano and Eric Mitchell, deliberately ignored this request from a commander, which resulted in a dismissal.
If the case resurfaces today, while it dates back several years, it is because of the recent publication of legal documents, concerning this case, in which we discover the reasons for such a dismissal.
Thus, we learn that these two officers refused to answer the commander in order to be able to play Pokémon Go. Finally, in their version, they were on foot patrol and would not have heard the call, because according to them, they were were in a park where the music was loud.
However, the video recordings in their car clearly indicate that they were next to the place during the theft and that Louis Lozano even told Eric Mitchell that he did not want to take care of it. Despite a second call from their unit, still unanswered from them, Officer Lozano said a Snorlax had arisen. For the next 20 minutes, the two chatted about Pokémon while heading to this location to attempt to capture it.
Their ride was prolific, as Officer Mitchell managed to capture Snorlax and knew he was going to make his colleagues jealous. They subsequently decided to continue their momentum by going to capture the Togetic Pokémon, which they managed to get.
During their misconduct investigation, the two officers claimed that they had not played Pokémon Go, only had a discussion about it. Eventually, it was during their audition that they admitted to leaving the area they were supposed to be working in to capture Snorlax, while insisting it was on additional patrol. (Of course…)
To conclude this case, Louis Lozano and Eric Mitchell were dismissed following a unanimous vote. They nevertheless tried to appeal this decision, arguing that the video recording should not have been used as evidence and that they did not have the opportunity to be represented by a lawyer during the hearing. their questioning.
The appeal was dismissed on January 7, but failing to have the thieves, they caught Snorlax and Togetic.
