Two authors read in Sierning in the coffee house

Two local authors will read on Wednesday from 4 p.m. as part of the coffee house readings of the “Literaturschiff” initiative in Café Malu: Margit Mössmer will present “The Secret of My Success”, Helena Adler will read from “Fretten”. Dominika Meindl will moderate the event.

Margit Mössmer tells the story of a difficult and great mother-child love from the perspective of a child who is born and does not agree with it. There are the other children. And there’s Alex. Alex is not interested in the world of his peers. Alex likes yellow food, white plastic, thick catalogues, clattering mailbox flaps and Nina, who has wonderful, strong penguin mommy arms. Alex can already read and write in kindergarten, but the world outside is still difficult to decipher. Finally, in a mysterious show of strength, the impossible succeeds: Alex fits in. But at what price?

state of oppression

Toil, to toil: In Austria and southern Germany, this is also known as “Fretten”. This word applies to the personalities appearing in Helena Adler’s novel, especially to the protagonist, who in the first-person perspective spans an arc between childhood in the provinces, youthful excesses and becoming a mother.

Like Adler’s other works, this one also describes the specifically Austrian tradition of covering up the unpleasant and the state of anxiety.
