Two “Brunos” each for Salzburg and Sturm Graz

Football champions Red Bull Salzburg and cup winners Sturm Graz each won two trophies at the 27th Bruno Gala at the Globe in Vienna on Monday evening. Former “Bulle” Nicolas Seiwald, who has since moved to Leipzig, was honored as player of the season and Philipp Köhn, who was transferred to Monaco, was honored as best goalkeeper. The Graz team was named team of the season, and their coach Christian Ilzer received the award for coach of the season.

Ilzer was delighted. “I can rely on a fantastic coaching team and a great team and I have a family behind me that is extremely supportive.” Sturm sports director Andreas Schicker also highlighted the collective when he was asked on stage to honor the team of the season. “This is a great award for the entire club,” emphasized Schicker.

Seiwald was also happy and was already looking ahead. The midfielder said he wanted to “get more playing minutes at Leipzig and win the European Championship with the national team against Belgium.”

The trophy for the legionnaire of the season went to David Alaba for the seventh time. The currently injured ÖFB team captain is in Madrid, his father George took over the trophy. Stefan Ebner won for the first time among the referees.

The best player in the 2nd league was Ronivaldo, who was promoted to the upper house with Blau-Weiß Linz, and the #comebackstronger award was presented to Muharem Huskovic. The fans voted Austria Wien’s Matthias Braunöder’s volley against LASK as the dream goal of the season. The trophy for the best women’s team of the season went to SKN St. Pölten, player of the season was Eileen Campbell (SPG SCR Altach/FFC Vorderland).

At the Bruno Awards, which have been held since 1997 by the Association of Footballers (VdF) in memory of the ÖFB national player Bruno Pezzey, who died in 1994, local Bundesliga players are eligible to vote in the main categories.
