Friedrichshain Construction Site Clash Leaves Workers Injured

Local authorities reported that the confrontation involved physical assaults, objects thrown from a nearby building, and a crowd of roughly 70 demonstrators who gathered across the street.
Assaults and Police Intervention on Gürtelstraße
According to the Berlin police report, officers from police section 51 were dispatched to the construction site at an apartment building on Gürtelstraße at approximately 2 p.m. following reports of physical altercations. Upon arrival, officers met with the construction company’s managing director, two employees, and two private security guards. The workers recounted a series of hostile attacks originating from a building, stating they were repeatedly assaulted physically and doused with urine. Glass bottles were also hurled into the work area.
The violence resulted in direct injuries to the crew. One worker was struck in the head by a glass bottle, while the second sustained facial cut wounds from shattering glass splinters. Emergency medical services provided immediate first aid to both injured men at the scene.
Demonstrators Gather as Tensions Rise
As the police operation unfolded, a simultaneous vigil (Mahnwache) formed on the opposite side of the street. The gathering grew to approximately 70 participants. Some individuals among the group put on face coverings (Vermummungen) and stepped onto the roadway while voicing their discontent. In response to the escalating crowd dynamics, police command requested successive waves of reinforcement officers to stabilize and ultimately calm the overall situation.
Emergency Work Stoppage and Ongoing State Security Investigation
To prevent any further escalation and ensure the final safety of the workers following the suspected bottle attacks, the police operation leadership ordered an immediate, temporary construction halt (Baustopp). Officers also established wide cordons around the property to block potential suspects from escaping unnoticed.
The State Security division of the State Criminal Police Office (Landeskriminalamt) has assumed responsibility for the ongoing investigations into multiple alleged criminal offenses, which include dangerous bodily harm and property damage.
