BANGKOK (AP) — Thai police have detained two Germans in connection with the kidnapping and murder of another German citizen, whose dismembered body was found in a freezer in a southern Thai home, authorities said Wednesday.

A 52-year-old German man was detained Tuesday night in Bangkok, while a 47-year-old German woman turned herself in to police a few hours earlier, according to the Khaosod daily, citing Tawee Kudthalaeng, police chief in the town. of Nong Prue where the body of the victim was found.

Tawee confirmed the arrests to The Associated Press and said they were both charged with murder. A third suspect was still being sought, she said, without elaborating.

The police chief had said earlier that his office was looking for German and Thai nationals as suspects in the case.

The body of Hans-Peter Mack, a 62-year-old real estate salesman, was found Monday night in a chest freezer in a house in Nong Prue, an upmarket area popular with foreigners north of Pattaya in the province of chonburi.

He had been missing for a week. He had last been seen driving his Mercedes sedan in Pattaya, the coastal city where he lived with his Thai wife.

A large amount of money had disappeared from Mack’s bank account, according to police, who believed the movement of funds was related to the crime.
