The Government has just announced in a press release the payment of the back-to-school allowance to 3 million families, to meet back-to-school expenses.
Help with back-to-school expenses
In a press release that we received, the Government (Ministry of Solidarity) confirms the date of August 16 for the payment of the ‘back to school allowance’ -ARS-, to nearly 3 million French families (the date is the same for most overseas departments). The ARS is intended for parents with modest incomes in order to pay in particular for school supplies for children.
Amounts up over 1 year
To support consumption, the sums have been increased by 5.6% compared to the premium paid last year. About 5 million children aged 6 to 18 learning in a public or private institution or attending school will benefit from this aid (source ministry).
398.09 euros per child from 6 to 10 years old
Parents with children aged 6 to 10 will receive 398.09 euros, for children aged 11 to 14 420.05 euros and for children aged 15 to 18, 434.61 euros. In Mayotte, these amounts will be increased by approximately 2 euros. When the family’s resources slightly exceed the ceiling, it then benefits from a back-to-school allowance at a reduced rate, decreasing according to its income.
Families already receiving benefits who meet the conditions and have children aged 6 to 15 do not have to take any steps, the ARS is paid to them automatically, otherwise read the 3 points below:
1) Families with children aged 16 to 18 must provide a sworn statement attesting that their child is still in school or learning (for CAF in the “My Account” section of the caf.fr website or on the application “Caf-My account”, for the MSA in the “My private space” section of the msa.fr site);
2) Families whose child reaches their sixth birthday after December 31, 2023 and is admitted to CP at the start of the school year must send their CAF/MSA a school certificate to benefit from the ARS;
3) Families who are not yet recipients must submit a request to their CAF/MSA (Dedicated form to download from the CAF or MSA website).
