In the village of Autheuil-Anthouillet (Eure), a citizen consultation is organized this Sunday, June 25, to decide whether or not to install a Carrefour supermarket.
France is not in an election period. And yet. The inhabitants of Autheuil-Authouillet, a small village in the Eure, are expected at the polls.
The local population decides on the establishment or not of a new supermarket of the Carrefour brand on its territory. This vote is organized this Sunday, June 25. The project divides deeply within the village.
According to RTL, if the project receives enough votes, the 300 square meter supermarket could be set up on a field. Local merchants are worried about this possible arrival, fearing competition from the store. “Here, we have businesses that complement each other. Why try to kill them? If Carrefour wants to settle in small villages, let it go where there is a lack of shops”, confides Sami, a butcher from the village, at the microphone of TF1.

Even within the population, the possible arrival of this Carrefour is not desired. “I don’t see the point of having a supermarket”, explains a resident to the first channel. Others are more in favor of it. “I’m more of the opinion that it’s an interesting idea, insofar as we have a proximity in terms of purchase that we don’t have at present.”, assures a resident of RTL.
For its part, the Carrefour group has undertaken to respect the result of the vote of the inhabitants. The mayor of Autheuil-Authouillet, Denis Noël, expects a lot from this citizen consultation. “I completely understand the fear of the village traders. I am waiting for the voters to decide, and then we will see the result of what will come out of the ballot box”, he explains to RTL.
