two high-powered smartphones with Leica photo expertise

The Chinese manufacturer has formalized its new series of smartphones, the Xiaomi 12S. Today we present to you the Xiaomi 12S and 12S Pro which rely on a very high-end processor and a Leica photo module.

At an event held in China, Xiaomi presented its gargantuan Xiaomi 12S Ultra. But the smartphone was not the only model present at the conference. The Xiaomi 12S and 12S Pro also have strong arguments to make.

Two sizes and two technical sheets for Xiaomi 12S and 12S Pro

Less “premium” than the Ultra model, the 12S and 12S Pro remain high-end smartphones with a solid technical sheet. They have the particularity of having two very different sizes.

The 12S is equipped with a 6.28-inch AMOLED screen with a refresh rate of 120 Hz and Full HD+ definition. For its part, the 12S Pro has a diagonal of 6.73 inches with a higher QHD + definition. The panel is also in AMOLED, but with LTPO 2.0 technology for a variable refresh rate of 1 to 120 Hz which preserves the phone’s endurance.

The autonomy of the Xiaomi 12S is ensured by a 4500 mAh battery, with fast wired charging at 67W and wireless at 50W. The 12S Pro has a 4600 mAh battery with 120W wired charging capable of fully charging it in just 19 minutes. 50W wireless charging is also included.

On the performance side, both phones are powered by Qualcomm’s latest high-end processor, the Snapdragon 8+ Gen1. Excellent performance in perspective and a chip that consumes less energy than the previous model which equips high-end mobiles from the start of 2022.

Photo modules stamped Leica

This new range of smartphones marks the realization of the photo partnership between Xiaomi and Leica. If the 12S Ultra claims the best photo module in the range, its two little brothers still benefit from a solid configuration and Leica’s know-how in terms of optics.

Thus, the two phones benefit from a main wide-angle sensor (24 mm equivalent) of 50 megapixels with f / 1.9 aperture with optical stabilization. A 1/1.28 inch Sony IMX707 sensor that promises great things, especially in low light.

For the second ultra-wide-angle sensor, the configurations diverge. That of the Xiaomi 12S is 13 megapixels with an f/2.4 aperture and an angle of 123 degrees. For its part, the ultra-wide-angle of the Xiaomi 12S Pro is 50 megapixels with an f/2.2 aperture for more light, but a lower angle of 115 degrees.

We end this tour of the photo module with the third sensor. The 12S Pro clearly stands out with its 50-megapixel (f/1.9) telephoto lens capable of lossless 2x optical zoom. Telephoto point for the classic 12S, but a 5 megapixel macro sensor with f/2.4 aperture.

Here are the prices for the different configurations of the Xiaomi 12S and 12S Pro. Note that the rates are given as an indication insofar as it is only a conversion yuan-euro. Fares should increase when crossing the borders of Europe.
