Two Swiss podiums to start the season

The Swiss ski cross specialists started the World Cup season with two podium places.

Both Jonas Lenherr in the men’s category and Talina Gantenbein in the women’s category took third place in Val Thorens in France. Fanny Smith took 4th place in the Final following a poor start.

Lenherr took his ninth place on a World Cup podium, the first since January 24, 2021 when he finished third in Idre Fjäll. The 29-year-old St. Gallen was beaten by Austrian Johannes Rohrweck and German Tobias Müller.

Olympic champion Ryan Regez disappointed with an elimination in the quarter-finals. The Bernese, who had also won the general classification of the World Cup, had taken a long break following his last successful season. He had spent three months in the United States with his partner. For his part, Alex Fiva, Olympic vice-champion, failed in the round of 16. Luca Lubasch fell heavily and was carried off the track.

Among the women, Gantenbein hung her third podium in the World Cup, each time in third place. La Grisonne surprisingly left Fanny Smith behind. Sweden’s Sandra Näslund, who won eleven of the twelve races last winter, celebrated her 29th World Cup victory. She thus catches up with Smith on the list.
