Two Venezuelans injured after accident in Nicaragua

In the van, with Managua license plates, were ten Ecuadorians, two Venezuelans and two Pakistanis, plus the driver who was also injured; and were taken to an area hospital.

At least 14 migrants, mainly from Ecuador, were injured when the overcrowded truck in which they were traveling suffered an accident early Tuesday morning in the Nicaraguan department of Río San Juan, on the border with Costa Rica, authorities reported.

The accident occurred at kilometer 223 of the highway that leads from San Carlos, the departmental capital of Río San Juan, to Managua, the capital of Nicaragua, when the driver lost control of the truck and it overturned, according to the police version.

In the van, with Managua license plates, were ten Ecuadorians, two Venezuelans and two Pakistanis, plus the driver who was also injured; and were taken to an area hospital.

Of the 14 migrants injured, the most seriously injured is a 36-year-old Pakistani, who suffered a head injury and polytrauma, for which he was transferred to the “Antonio Lenín Fonseca” national reference hospital in Managua, according to the information.

The injured Ecuadorians were identified as Carlos Alfredo Vera (31), Dilan Lucín Suárez (17), Doyler Guaman Ordóñez (30), Doyler Waman Cordones (31); Félix Darío Cela Suárez (35), Henry Omar Guaman (25), Jimmy Acurio Peña Herrera (27), Jesús Alberto Lucín López (29), Leonela Aguaiza Robayla (23) and Luis Loan López (41), according to the list published by the Nicaraguan newspaper La Prensa.

The Pakistanis were identified as Mohammed Matten (19) and the seriously injured Wjih Ui Hassan Syed (36); and one of the Venezuelans as Karleys Nayling Primera Oropesa (18).

The authorities did not reveal the name of the other Venezuelan, nor that of the driver of the truck, apparently Nicaraguan.

The National Police presume that the driver was speeding.
