25-year-old Magdalena Neuhofer from Mehrnbach has fulfilled her wish: She was allowed to make her debut on February 8th at the 66th Vienna Opera Ball in front of 5,100 spectators in the completely sold-out State Opera. “An indescribable experience,” says the woman from Mehrnbach. She came up with the idea of taking part in the opera ball last year when she saw a report about the ball on television. A total of over 400 couples applied to perform at the 66th Opera Ball. But only 144 were accepted. The 25-year-old was so happy when she found out that her application was successful.
Last chance
“It was my last chance to be accepted. Next year I wouldn’t have been allowed to apply because of the age limit,” says Neuhofer. She was clearly nervous before the performance, but it disappeared when she entered the dance floor. “I just concentrated on dancing and just enjoyed it,” says Neuhofer. She was very impressed by the atmosphere of the ball. “There was a relaxed atmosphere throughout the evening. We celebrated until the early hours of the morning,” reports the woman from Mehrnbach.
She wasn’t the only woman from Innviertel who was allowed to open this year’s ball. Three other Innviertler women were there: 23-year-old Hanna Krassler from Neuhofen, 24-year-old Valentina Bleckenwegner from Hohenzell and 20-year-old Leonie Kaiser from Mehrnbach. Neuhofer himself was surprised that she and Leonie Kaiser, two women from Mehrnbach, were allowed to dance at the 66th edition of the ball. “We met by chance during rehearsals. A funny coincidence,” says Neuhofer.
