While the 6th Typhoon ‘Kanun’ is predicted to land near Tongyeong, Gyeongsangnam-do at around 9:00 am today (10th) and then head north to the metropolitan area via the Chungcheong area, a typhoon warning is effective today at 9:00 am in Seoul and northern Gyeonggi. It’s possible.
The Korea Meteorological Administration announced that a typhoon advisory will take effect for 17 northern parts of Gyeonggi, including all of Seoul and Incheon and Goyang, starting at 9:00 am.
The applicable regions are Seoul, Incheon, five islands in the West Sea, Gyeonggi Goyang, Bucheon, Namyangju, Anyang, Siheung, Paju, Uijeongbu, Gimpo, Gwangmyeong, Hanam, Yangju, Guri, Pocheon, Dongducheon, Gapyeong, Gwacheon, and Yeoncheon.
A typhoon warning has been in effect for 14 southern Gyeonggi provinces, including Suwon, since 7 am.
The applicable regions are Suwon, Yongin, Seongnam, Hwaseong, Ansan, Pyeongtaek, Gwangju, Gunpo, Osan, Icheon, Anseong, Uiwang, Yangpyeong, and Yeoju.
A typhoon advisory is issued when strong winds, winds, heavy rain, and storm surges are expected to reach the criteria for each phenomenon advisory due to a typhoon.
Typhoon Kanun No. 6 is expected to move north to about 20 km north-northeast of Cheongju at 6:00 pm today and about 40 km to the east-southeast of Seoul at 9:00 pm.
The closest time the typhoon passes to Seoul is around 11 o’clock tonight, and the distance is expected to be 30 km.
As the typhoon moves north inland, strong rain and wind will blow until tomorrow in the metropolitan area, including Seoul and Gyeonggi, and heavy rain of up to 200mm will fall.
There are places where very strong rain of 20 to 50 mm per hour falls in southern and Gangwon Yeongdong, where typhoon warnings or advisories have already been issued.
In addition, very strong winds with a maximum instantaneous wind speed of around 90km per hour (25m per second) are blowing centered on Jeju Island and the southern coast, causing damage one after another.
