After finishing the U23 Asian Cup qualifiers, it was a difficult schedule to face the Asian Games, but I asked the players I thought were the best to be called up, and they agreed. I really want to win the championship with this team. It’s a tough schedule, but we want to make it a tournament where we can show our team strength and aim for the championship.
There are various positions and teams, but I would like to share with the team what we want to express on the pitch and create an environment where the players can demonstrate it on the pitch. I want the players to take it seriously. I hope that the buildup will be a tournament where we can win in the finals. It is necessary to grow once or twice during this tournament.
We have been looking for a high level team to aim for the championship. University students were also in the large group, so I made a solid selection. We weren’t thinking about a team consisting only of college students, but rather how we could create a high-level team to win the championship. I want the players who have been selected to play with responsibility and self-awareness as representatives of Japan.
