U.S. government departments, including the White House, State Department, and Department of Defense, strongly condemned North Korea’s launch of its third reconnaissance satellite and said they would take all necessary measures to defend the alliance. On the 21st, North Korea launched a reconnaissance satellite.

The White House issued an emergency statement strongly condemning North Korea’s launch of a space launch vehicle.

In a statement issued by National Security Council spokesman Adrian Watson, the White House criticized North Korea’s launch of a military reconnaissance satellite, saying it brazenly violates several UN Security Council resolutions, escalates tensions and risks destabilizing the security situation in the region and beyond. .

He also pointed out that this space launch includes technology directly related to North Korea’s intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) program, and said that President Joe Biden and the national security team are working closely with allies and partners to assess the situation.

Previously, North Korea launched its third military reconnaissance satellite in the Dongchang-ri area at around 10:43 pm on the 21st, Korean Peninsula time.

Next, the Korean Central News Agency claimed success, saying that about three hours later, in the early morning of the 22nd, the reconnaissance satellite Manri-Kyung-1, which was launched onboard a new rocket Chollima-1, accurately entered orbit.

The U.S. State Department did not immediately accept North Korea’s claim and condemned North Korea’s launch.

“I cannot confirm that assessment. (The analysis) is still ongoing within the U.S. government. All I can say is, ‘We condemn North Korea’s illegal launch of a military reconnaissance satellite today.’”

Spokesperson Miller said, “We will continue to work with the international community to send a strong signal to North Korea that such actions will only undermine the stability and prosperity of the Korean Peninsula and deepen its isolation.”

The U.S. Department of Defense also announced in its regular briefing that it is currently analyzing projectiles fired by North Korea in consultation with South Korea and Japan.

Sabrina Singh / Deputy Spokesperson, U.S. Department of Defense
“We are aware of North Korea’s space launch vehicle launch. We are also discussing with Korea and Japan, as well as other regional allies and partners. “We can confirm that we are aware of it, but we are still assessing whether it will be successful or not.”

Meanwhile, in response to VOA’s request for comment regarding North Korea’s satellite launch, the State Department repeatedly confirmed that North Korea’s launch was clearly illegal, unlike South Korea’s.

A State Department spokesperson said North Korea’s pursuit of weapons of mass destruction and ballistic missile capabilities violates numerous UN Security Council resolutions, but South Korea’s missile tests do not, and that this is an important distinction.

He pointed out that North Korea’s space launch vehicle integrates the same or interchangeable technology as that used in ballistic missiles.
