UAE and Bahrain Joint Meeting on Human Rights Cooperation

The Secretariat of the Permanent Committee for Human Rights held a joint meeting with the National Human Rights Committee of the sisterly Kingdom of Bahrain in the capital, Abu Dhabi.

Views were exchanged to discuss aspects of cooperation and to explore areas and opportunities for enhancing technical cooperation between the two committees in the field of human rights.

His Excellency Khalifa Shaheen Al Marar, Minister of State, met at the headquarters of the General Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the Bahraini delegation, and during the meeting, ways of joint cooperation in the field of human rights were discussed.

Saeed Rashid Al Habsi, Director of the Human Rights Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and member of the Permanent Committee for Human Rights, began the meeting between the two committees by welcoming Dr. Yousef Abdulkarim Bucheery, Director General of Legal Affairs and Human Rights at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Kingdom of Bahrain, and reviewed the fraternal and distinguished historical relations between the two brotherly countries.

For his part, Bucheery stressed the strong and distinguished historical fraternal partnership between the UAE and the Kingdom of Bahrain.

During the meeting, aspects of cooperation and exchange of information, experiences and best practices were discussed in relation to national plans for human rights and cooperation in the field of following up on obligations within the framework of international human rights conventions, and in the field of the universal periodic review mechanism for human rights.

The two sides expressed their aspiration to strengthen cooperation frameworks in a way that contributes to strengthening and developing efforts made in the field of human rights.
