The UAE launched the first Gulf Youth Games with a bountiful harvest of 18 medals, including four golds, in the Taekwondo competitions, which were held at the Zayed Sports Complex in Fujairah.
The UAE will host the Gulf Games, the first of its kind for the future generation, from April 16 until May 2, under the slogan “Our Gulf is One – Promising Youth,” in 24 games, with the participation of more than 3,500 male and female athletes.
The Taekwondo competitions, in which 124 male and female players participated, were opened in the presence of Dr. Ahmed Hamdan Al-Zeyoudi, President of the Taekwondo Federation, and a number of heads of Gulf federations. On the first day, 70 matches were held in 10 weight categories for the male and female junior categories.
On the first day, the UAE won 18 medals (4 gold, 11 silver, and 3 bronze), compared to 16 medals for Kuwait (7 gold, 2 silver, and 7 bronze), 9 medals for Saudi Arabia (3 gold, 4 silver, and 2 bronze), and 5 medals for Oman (4 gold). , and silver).
The UAE gold medals at the junior women’s level were won by Maitha Rashid in the under-44 kg, Marwa Zuhair in the under-47 kg, and Sharifa Ismail in the under-55 kg, and the juniors were won by Nasser Ahmed Al Muhairi in the under-49 kg.

The competitions are held in the under-14 and under-18 categories for males and females, and each team is allowed to participate with 3 players at the team level.
The UAE U-18 team’s roster for the tournament includes Abdul Rahman Mohammed Al-Taher, Zayed Sultan Al-Taher, Saud Jaber Al-Zarouni, and Ghaith Al-Nuaimi. The U-14 team includes Salem Jassim, Muhammad Youssef, and Amer Saeed, and the U-18 girls’ team includes Ahlam.
