It is reported that BCCI may allow Indian players to play in foreign T20 leagues. In the first phase, the Indian players will be allowed to play mainly in South Africa’s recently launched T20 league. All the teams in the South Africa T20 League are owned by IPL franchise owners. Reports suggest that the BCCI took this decision following pressure from these franchises. A final decision in this regard will also be taken in the BCCI’s general body meeting to be held in September.

It is suggested that even if male players are allowed to play in foreign leagues, prominent players who have a central contract with the BCCI may not get this benefit. At the same time, this decision will greatly benefit the young players who are not on the central contract list.

Currently, only retired Indian players are allowed to play in foreign T20 leagues. Indian women players are allowed to play in foreign leagues.
