UAE: The number of people registered in the UAE unemployment insurance scheme has crossed 50 lakh. All workers must be part of the plan by June 30. If not registered, action will be taken from July 1.
This is a scheme that provides insurance cover at a low premium to ordinary workers who lose their jobs. According to the UAE Ministry of Human Resources and Indigenization, the project has been well received by employees of government and private institutions. .
Workers registered under the Employment Loss Insurance Scheme will get financial protection for up to three months in case of closure of the establishment or default in salary.
Those with a salary of up to Dh16,000 can join the scheme by paying a premium of Dh5 per month or Dh60 per year. Those with a salary above 16,000 dirhams must pay 10 dirhams per month or 120 dirhams per year.
