UAE’s Humanitarian Response: Inauguration of Water Desalination Plants in Rafah, Egypt for the Gaza Strip

Her Excellency Ambassador Lana Nusseibeh, Assistant Foreign Minister for Political Affairs and Permanent Representative of the United Arab Emirates to the United Nations, in the presence of a large number of delegates from member states of the UN Security Council, inaugurated 3 water desalination plants in the Rafah region of Egypt, with the aim of supplying the Gaza Strip with its water needs. Drinking, as part of the UAE’s humanitarian response to alleviate the suffering of our Palestinian brothers in the Gaza Strip.

This came during the visit of the UN delegation to the Rafah crossing, at the initiative of the UAE and in cooperation with the Arab Republic of Egypt.

The establishment of water desalination plants in Rafah, Egypt, comes within the humanitarian operation “The Gallant Knight 3”, given the suffering of the water sector infrastructure in Gaza, and to meet the population’s needs for potable water. The plants will desalinate about 600,000 gallons per day, and pump it through pipes extending into the Gaza Strip, covering the needs of 300 thousand people.

The United Arab Emirates launched the humanitarian operation “The Gallant Knight 3” on the fifth of last November. To provide humanitarian support to the Palestinian people in Gaza, it sent 105 planes carrying the field hospital, water desalination plants, and more than 7,126 tons of food, medical and relief supplies.
