The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) reacted to the Ukrainian flag scandal during the Champions League football final in Istanbul between the English Manchester City and the Italian Inter, informs Guardian.

Before the game, two stadium employees tried to take away the Ukrainian flag from the fan. According to the victim, he is a native of Odessa and lives in Israel, one of the guards wore the emblem of the Turkish Football Federation and UEFA accreditation.

“Security at the stadium was the responsibility of the local organizers and the local police. It was an unfortunate personal initiative of one of the local police officers. When the head of the Turkish police was informed, he immediately asked to return the flag to the fan, as can be seen in the full version of the video. Please note that UEFA does not prohibit the display of Ukrainian flags in stadiums. The organization has indeed actively demonstrated calls for peace in all its games since the beginning of the conflict,” said a UEFA spokesman.

We are quite sensitive to such situations. So far there has been no response from UEFA.
