Did he collapse under the great flood of parcels?

In the UK, a courier from the parcel service DPD died in a van. The man named Warren Norton (49) was found slumped over his steering wheel, reports the „Sun“.

The single father of a daughter (14) is said to have worked up to 14 hours a day for weeks – because of the discount battles for “Black Friday”, “Black Week” and Co. the packages have piled up.

An anonymous source told The Sun: “Warren has been working a lot of overtime lately to deliver as many packages as possible. The managers try to persuade you to work more days and longer because they know we are self-employed.”

The work pressure is enormous. “The warehouse must be cleared of packages at all costs,” the source continued.

Worked from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m

In some cases, the deceased is said to have worked seven days a week! He started at 6 a.m. in the morning and sometimes worked until 8 p.m., the report said.

The reward for the hard work: just 120 pounds a day. That’s the equivalent of around 140 euros.

Norton is said to have been found by colleagues in his Citroën van at the DPD warehouse in Dartford, England. They thought he was sleeping. They knocked it on his car window to wake him up – but he didn’t respond!

One of them smashed the window. And Norton fell out of the car onto the ground. He was dead!

Attempts at resuscitation failed, and even with a defibrillator, his colleagues might not bring him back.

Norton is said to have worked for DPD for around two years.

A company spokesman confirmed the courier’s death to The Sun, saying: “Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this moment.”
