UK inflation rises to its highest level in 30 years

Official statistics showed today, Wednesday, that the prices of fuel and food are rising rapidly, which pushed the rate of inflation in Britain to a 30-year high in March, even before energy bills rose.
And the British news agency “AB Media” quoted the Office for National Statistics that the consumer price index rose to 7% in the year to last March, compared to 6.2% in February.

This is the highest level of inflation since March 1992, when inflation reached 7.1%.

But the increase did not take into account the average increase in electricity bills, estimated at 54%, which was applied to about 22 million people two weeks ago.

The impact of energy bills on inflation figures will not appear until next year, and data for this April is expected to show another rise in the inflation rate.

The Bank of England expected the inflation rate to rise to about 8% in April.
