In a nutshell, Moscow seeks: that NATO (the defensive military alliance of several European countries, Canada and the US) does not expand further east; that Ukraine cannot join that military alliance, and for NATO to withdraw forces from Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Poland, and to go back to the limits of 1997, when the organization was not made up of any Eastern country.
