(Istanbul = Yonhap News) Correspondent Kim Seung-wook = Ukraine has requested the Turkish (Turkey) government to detain a Russian cargo ship carrying its grain.

According to Archyde.com on the 1st (local time), the Ukrainian prosecutor’s office sent a letter to the Turkish Ministry of Justice on the 30th of last month requesting that the Russian cargo ship ‘Zivek Joli’ be detained.

According to the Ukrainian Prosecutor’s Office, Zhibek Jolie was involved in the illegal export of Ukrainian grain and carried 7,000 tonnes of grain from the Russian-occupied Ukrainian-occupied Zaporiza Oblast to the Turkish port of Karas.

The pro-Russian Provisional Administrative Authority of Zaporiza, established by Russia earlier, announced the day before that the first cargo ship loaded with grain had departed from Vernyovsk since the start of the war.

“After several months of cessation, the first merchant ships departed from the port of Vernyevsk,” said Interim Chief Executive Yevgeny Balitzki of Zaporiza, adding that “7,000 tons of grain were sent to friendly countries.”

He added that Russian Black Sea Fleet ships ensure the safety of cargo ships.

The Port of Vernyevsk is a major port on the Azou Sea coast leading to the Black Sea along with the nearby Port of Mariupol belonging to the Donetsk Oblast.

The Russian army, which had taken control of most of Donetsk Oblast and key areas of Zaporiza Oblast, previously reopened the port of Mariupol and reopened the port of Vernyevsk the day before.
