Ukraine – Iceland 2:1 | The national team of Ukraine qualified for Euro-2024

The match ended with a score of 2:1 in favor of the national team of Ukraine. Victor Tsygankov and Mykhailo Mudryk scored the goals against Iceland, Georgy Sudakov provided two assists.

Iceland took the lead in the 30th minute of the match. Albert Gudmundsson received the ball near the penalty area, immediately rolled several players of the national team of Ukraine, turned around and accurately hit the goal from the edge of the penalty area. Andriy Lunin could not reach the ball.

Ukraine responded to the missed goal at the end of the first half. Roman Yaremchuk received the ball from Viktor Tsygankov and sent the ball into Iceland’s goal with one touch. However, the referee disallowed this goal due to offside.

The national team of Ukraine started the second half well. Already in the 54th minute, Georgy Sudakov gave a magnificent pass to Tsygankov. Viktor moved from the right flank to the center and from the line of the penalty area punched into the far corner of the goal – 1:1.

In the 84th minute, the Ukrainians performed an impressive “fan” combination from the right flank, Tsygankov transited through Sudakov and delivered the ball to Mudryk, who hit Iceland’s goal from the line of the penalty area and put Ukraine ahead – 2:1.

At Euro-2024, the team will play in Group E. Opponents are Belgium, Romania and Slovakia. The European Football Championship will be held from June 14 to July 14 in Germany.

Performances of the national team of Ukraine in the selection for Euro-2024

On March 21, Ukraine beat Bosnia and Herzegovina (2:1) in the head-to-head match of the Euro 2024 qualifiers, the winning goals were scored by Roman Yaremchuk and Artem Dovbyk.

The Ukrainians started their qualifying campaign on March 26, 2023 in London against England. Under the leadership of acting head coach Ruslan Rotan, our team lost with a score of 0:2.

Ukraine was led to the June matches by Serhiy Rebrov, who began his work at the head of the national team with victories over North Macedonia (3:2) and Malta (1:0). On September 9, Ukraine drew 1:1 with England, and on September 12, it lost to Milan, Italy – 1:2.

On October 14, our team beat North Macedonia – 2:0 in Prague. On October 17, Ukrainian football players defeated Malta – 3:1.

In the final match of the group round, Ukraine drew 0:0 with Italy in Leverkusen. Rebrov’s team scored 14 points and finished third in Group C. Thanks to a 2:1 victory in the first personal match, our team was overtaken by the Italians, who also scored 14 points.

England remained in first place with 20 points. North Macedonia was fourth with 8 points. Malta did not score a single point.
