After the incident in the Black Sea between Russian fighters and an American drone, different actors in the international community have highlighted the tension and the possible escalation of the conflict, since this could have a direct impact on the intervention of the United States in the war, and this time, not as a support for Ukraine.

And added that: “The constant tactic of going all-in and raising the ante under strategic defeat conditions hopes to change the circumstances.”

According to the command of the US forces, one of the Russian fighters flying over the Black Sea hit one of the drone’s propellers, which led the US authorities to shoot it down at sea. According to the Pentagon, Russian planes flew near the device for more than 30 minutes before it fell into the Black Sea, without its remains being able to be recovered.

Moscow denied these accusations, although it acknowledged that two of its fighters intercepted an American drone detected “in the area of the Crimean peninsula”, a Ukrainian peninsula annexed by Russia in 2014. According to Moscow, that drone was advancing “in the direction” of the Russian border. .

“The Russian fighters did not use their weapons”, and they did not even come into contact with the drone, which had violated the provisional zone of use of the airspace “established to carry out the special military operation”, they added that the US drone was flying with transponders off, the Russian army fought back, using the usual term for the invasion of Ukraine.

US won’t stop surveillance flights

A clear and direct message was sent by the government of Joe Biden to that of Vladimir Putin after the interception of a United States drone by a Russian plane.

The senior US official made the statement during the 10th meeting of the Defense Contact Group in Ukraine, where he also accused Russia of dumping fuel on the US drone that “carried out routine operations in international airspace” which caused an accident against another of these unmanned aircraft.

“This dangerous episode is part of a pattern of aggressive, risky and unsafe actions by Russian pilots in international airspace,” Austin said.who asked the allied countries to redouble their efforts so that Ukraine achieves victory.

“So make no mistake. The United States will continue to fly and operate where international law allows”, while “it is up to Russia to operate its military aircraft safely and professionally”, he warned.

“We will continue to fly and operate in international airspace over some international waters. […] The Black Sea does not belong to any nation. And we are going to continue to do what we have to do for our national security interests in that part of the world,” Kirby concluded.
