The President of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelenski, has denounced this Monday that Russia has committed war crimes and in particular the “brutal” bombing of the city of Kharkov. That is why he has requested a no-fly zone.

“Today the Russian forces have brutally fired on Kharkiv with artillery shells. It is an obvious war crime,” Zelensky said in a televised speech on Monday.

“Kharkov is a peaceful city. There are peaceful residential areas, without military installations. Dozens of witness accounts show that they are not stray shots but intentional destruction. The Russians knew where they were shooting », she explained.

The Ukrainian president has denounced that in the five days of the invasion Russia has launched 56 rockets and 113 cruise missiles, actions “that will be judged in an international court.” “It is a violation of all conventions. No one in the whole world will forgive you for the death of peaceful Ukrainians,” Zelensky warned.

“Peaceful Kharkov. Kharkov strong. You have always been like this. You will always be like this. You will also resist this. Let’s protect Ukraine. We are going to help all those who have suffered from this inhumane invasion », he added.

The municipal authorities of Járkov have denounced this Monday nine deaths and 37 wounded by the impact of the Russian projectiles, including three minors. “Four people who left the shelter to get water have died. A family of two adults and three children burned alive inside the car. It is terrible,” explained the mayor of Kharkov, Igor Terekhov.

AIR EXCLUSION ZONE

In addition, Zelensky has again called for a no-fly zone for Russian missiles, planes and helicopters. “We must consider a total no-fly zone for Russian missiles, planes and helicopters,” he said.

However, Zelensky has not referred to who or how the no-fly zone should be imposed.

Regarding the talks held this Monday between a Russian and a Ukrainian delegation in Belarus, Zelensky recalled that they have taken place “in the midst of continuous Russian bombardment” of Ukrainian cities.

Regarding Russia’s position in the UN Security Council, Zelensky has argued that a country that commits crimes against civilians “cannot be a member of the UN Security Council.” “All ports, canals and airports in the world must be closed to them,” he said.
