Ukraine reported partial progress in its counter-attack against Russian forces on Wednesday, in what it described as “very fierce” fighting.

Hana Malyar, Ukraine’s deputy defense minister, wrote in a blog post on the Telegram application that the Ukrainian measures had achieved “partial” success.

She added that in the past day, the Ukrainian forces advanced between 200 and 500 meters in various areas near the city of Bakhmut, which was severely damaged in the east of the country, and between 300 and 350 meters in the direction of the city of Zaporizhya in the southeast of the country.

Maliar said: “Our forces are moving in the face of very fierce fighting and air and artillery superiority of the enemy.”

In later statements, Malyar said that Ukraine’s losses are much less than those of the Russian side.

“In general, during the whole war, we suffered much less losses,” she wrote on Telegram.

She told Ukrainian television that “the number of enemy casualties in the eastern Khortitsya sector of the front over the past week was 8.73 times greater than the Ukrainian losses.” The ratio was 5.3 times in the “Tavria” sector.

But Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Tuesday that the casualties in Ukraine are 10 times higher than the Russian losses since the start of the counter-offensive in Kiev.

“As of now, we are defending and attacking, in different directions… There is a very dangerous confrontation,” Maliar said.

It revealed that the Russian forces had not advanced for a little over a week.

On the other hand, Western officials explained to the British “Sky News” network that the Ukrainian forces liberated at least 4 towns and approximately 7 km of territory.

“It will continue to make progress as the counterattack continues,” they added.

“It is still too early to say whether or not the counter-attack was successful,” they added.
