Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister Dmitro Schenic, who visited South Korea on the 7th, said that more weapons are needed to counter the Russian invasion and that he expects active support from the South Korean government.
Deputy Minister Schenic held a press conference at the Ukrainian Embassy in Seoul on the same day and said, “I want the international community to provide weapons that can protect against Russian aggression.” “I hope this war will end as soon as possible. will,” he said.
Vice Minister Scenic visited Korea on the 6th for 3 days and 2 nights to discuss post-war reconstruction, trade, investment, and development cooperation with the Korean government.
During his visit to Korea, he met with Lee Do-hoon, 2nd Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) officials, and domestic business officials.
Afterwards, they plan to attend the Asian Security Conference (Shangri-La Dialogue) held in Singapore via the Philippines.
When asked if he had discussed with Vice Minister Lee regarding South Korea’s arms support, Vice Minister Senek said, “The governments of South Korea and Ukraine share the same opinion on many issues,” but did not clearly state what position South Korea had expressed.
When asked about the possibility of South Korea’s arms support, he said, “I don’t know the outcome yet, but I’m sure all the issues to be discussed were on the table,” he said.
Deputy Minister Scenic emphasized the commonalities between the two countries: the scars of war.
“Ukraine and Korea are close partners who share the same values,” he said.

He emphasized that Korea’s case of economic growth in a difficult environment is important for Ukraine, saying that post-war reconstruction in Ukraine will go beyond simply restoring physical facilities, and will involve recreating the economic and political system for the 21st century.
“Believing that we will win, we started the reconstruction work after the war,” said Vice Minister Senick.
Specifically, Vice Minister Scenic explained that cooperation would be possible in fields such as education, health, and IT, as well as in infrastructure fields with excellent technologies worldwide.
“Korea has experts in the construction of offshore infrastructure, buildings, roads, etc.,” said Vice Minister Senick. “Korean companies from other fields are also welcome to participate in Ukraine’s recovery plan.”
In addition, he added, “We did not enter into detailed discussions about what kind of support the Korean government has expressed in relation to the reconstruction of Ukraine’s nuclear power plant.”
