Ukrainian authorities seized several buildings of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church on the territory of the Kiev Monastery of the Caves, the monastery’s lawyer Nikita Chekman stated on his Telegram channel. He added that a commission from the country’s Ministry of Culture sealed off three buildings and the Police used force against the faithful.

From the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church they affirmed that the demand of the Ministry of Culture It is illegal and this decision will be appealed. However, Evgueni Nikiforovtold Sputnik that there was no point in appealing to the law in Ukraine.

“Anarchy occurs there. In fact, the law is abused and flouted. Therefore, it is useless to appeal to the law there, it is impossible to hope for a legal victory. Appealing to the West is also impossible,” he said.

In his opinion, the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church stands alone in the face of the “kingdom of the antichrist” that is now spreading freely across Ukraine. But in kyiv they don’t even realize what they are doing because what is happening is “a veritable national suicide”.

In the Monastery of the Caves live more than 200 monks and novices, hundreds of future priests, students of the Theological Academy and the seminary. It also houses the administrative center of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church and the residence of its primate, Metropolitan of kyiv and All Ukraine Onufri.

The Ukrainian authorities organized over the past year the most extensive campaign of persecutions in history contemporary to the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church (subject to the Moscow Patriarchate). Using its ties with Russia as a pretext, the authorities of various regions of Ukraine made decisions to ban its activity, the country’s Parliament introduced a bill that actually intends to ban the canonical Orthodox Church on the territory of Ukraine.
