Ukrainian President Zelensky’s UN Security Council Meeting: First Encounter with Lavrov

On the sidelines of the general debate at the UN General Assembly, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj will be the focus of a Security Council meeting on Wednesday (from 5 p.m. CEST).

At a meeting of the 15-member committee on Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, Zelensky could meet Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov for the first time since Russia’s invasion.

Zelensky’s first trip to the UN headquarters in New York since the outbreak of war is seen as an attempt to convince skeptical countries of his course. In addition, the general debate at the UN General Assembly is scheduled to enter its second day on Wednesday. Among other things, a speech by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has been announced.
