Four days of monstrous excavations, and… broucouilles. Alive, alone, lost in nature, we will never find Emile again. It’s hot and he’s only two and a half years old. Digne-les-Bains prosecutor Rémy Avon said the second phase of the investigation was now open. This consists of the analysis of “the considerable mass of data” collected so far.

According to the mayor of Vernet, François Balique, “they were about to have an activity. The grandparents charge the car to go to this activity. When they wanted to take Émile to take him away, a quarter of an hour after waking him up from his nap, they noticed that he was no longer there”.
So far, the 30 houses of the hamlet have been searched, the 25 inhabitants questioned, the vehicles analyzed and in total 97 hectares of fields, woods or steep terrain have been raked. 1500 calls were received on the dedicated telephone line.
The family members, including the mother, were auditioned. Thirty people have already been heard in this case. Many uncles and aunts were present at the grandparents’ during the disappearance, for a large family reunion in which the mother did not, however, participate.

Shadow zone: residents of the hamlet of Vernet say they saw Emile in the streets shortly before his disappearance. They did not react: it seems customary, they said, for children in this small village to frolic in the street.
The mayor of the village mentioned another track, plausible it seems in this region:
“The animal trail” and more particularly a “bird abduction”. At first, a wolf attack had also been mentioned.
Today, the village is closed, Mayor François Balique has extended the closure of the village until the end of the weekend. He thus wishes to “protect families and prevent any curious tourism”.
“It’s awful, but don’t see it as a ridiculous curse,” he said, given the changing climate.
Ultra-Catholic, Emile’s family is at the heart of suspicion against a backdrop of sectarian accusations. Testimonies, however, have contradicted this presupposition.
