The head of the Palestinian Doctors Association in Turkey, Dr. Muhammad Amin, narrated details of the catastrophic health situation in the Gaza Strip as a result of the Israeli attacks and the imposed siege.

In an interview with Anatolia, Amin – who practices medicine in Istanbul and whose entire family is in Gaza – said, “Gaza’s hospitals have become unable to provide services due to the energy problem. Some of them have been closed, and others have been subjected to Israeli bombing.”

He added that the people he contacted in the region told him about what happened in Gaza and the many difficulties, especially in the medical field.

He stated that, according to the information he received about the conditions in the Gaza Strip, “no one feels safe wherever they are” in the Strip, which has been subjected to violent and intense air strikes for 17 days, which claimed the lives of 5,087 martyrs, including 2,055 children, 1,119 women, and 217 elderly people, and injured more than 15. A thousand people.

Children recite the Shahada before going to sleep

Doctor Amin said, “People in Gaza have begun reciting the Shahada before going to sleep every night, and they also make their children say it because anything can happen at any moment. The people of Gaza’s adherence to their homes and land and their unwillingness to be displaced, despite everything that is happening, is their message that they want.” Delivering it to the world.”

Amin stated that “conditions in Gaza are indescribably bad.” He pointed out that “there are very large numbers of sick and injured people that far exceed the capacity of hospitals in Gaza, and that doctors are resorting to primitive methods of treatment in light of the depletion of medical materials.”

He pointed out that “the conditions in the operating rooms are very bad, and there are no capabilities for sterilization,” while large numbers of infected people are constantly arriving. He continued, “The intensive care units are in a very difficult situation. There is no electricity or fuel, and they are forced to think about closing the hospitals because they are now without fuel and electricity. They will not be able to serve patients.”

The Palestinian doctor said that about 6 hospitals in Gaza were out of service due to running out of fuel.

Later in the interview, the number of hospitals out of service rose to 10, according to what the Gaza Ministry of Health announced yesterday evening, Sunday.

Amin added, “Everyone witnessed the bombing of some hospitals. We saw a hospital being bombed live or in front of people’s eyes, but it is not the only hospital. We received reports that about 5 hospitals were bombed.”

Performing surgeries without anesthesia

Amin stated that many medical workers lost their lives in the Israeli attacks, and that “all workers in the sector lost people from their families and relatives.” He explained, “The Gaza Strip, which has been under siege for many years, is trying to withstand in exceptional circumstances. Countries cannot bear such a war.” He added, “Medical sector workers use vinegar to dress and sterilize wounds instead of medical supplies. They also currently sew wounds without anesthesia. We also learned that when it is necessary to amputate an injured person’s foot, they perform the amputation without anesthesia.”

Doctor Amin stated that they also performed such dangerous surgeries on children, and encouraged them by saying, “You are a hero, you must bear this, we have no other way.”

He denounced the position of international organizations on what is happening, saying, “It is inexplicable that international health organizations and international law organizations remain silent in the face of what is happening in Gaza.”

He added, “It is unfortunate that humanity failed the test of Gaza. Everyone sees the brutality, and everyone must do something, not only in Gaza but everywhere.”

Amin pointed out that “nearly 50 families were deleted from the civil registry, because all of their members were killed in the war.”

Regarding search and rescue operations, he said, “There are still survivors among the rubble of some buildings destroyed by the Israeli bombing, but people were unable to rescue them due to the continuing bombing and the lack of search and rescue equipment.”
