The former Zougois MP is well placed to understand the French MP who is drugged with a view to being abused.

The latest news is that French MP Sandrine Josso (MoDem) is still in a state of shock, after having been drugged with a view to being raped by Senator Joël Guerriau (Horizons), accused of “chemical submission”, indicted, placed under judicial control and suspended yesterday by his party, despite the denial made by the person concerned who mentions a “handling error”.

According to her lawyer, Sandrine Josso felt unwell after drinking a glass of champagne, before seeing the senator “grab a small plastic bag containing something white”. She was able to “extricate herself at the last minute from this ambush”. If anyone is well placed to understand it, it is the former Zug MP Jolanda Spiess-Hegglin.

In 2014, Jolanda Spiess-Hegglin was 34 years old when on December 20, two days after her swearing in at the Grand Council, a party given in honor of the new president of the cantonal government went wrong for her. The MP does not know how she got home where, upon waking up, her lower abdomen was full of pain.

Rapist’s Drug

Blood and urine tests were carried out at the hospital, but too late to detect GHB, the rapist drug. Jolanda Spiess Hegglin’s last memory is of a bottle of wine placed on a table and a glass filled by her SVP colleague Markus Hürlimann.

Arrested, Markus Hürlimann spent a night in prison. His DNA was found during a gynecological examination, with another never identified, but the UDC MP will deny any non-consensual report and will be cleared.

Presence of ecstasy

The fundamental difference between the two cases, between Zug and Paris, is that the samples from Sandrine Josso’s body revealed the presence of ecstasy. Searches at his attacker’s home then allowed investigators to find the same substance.

Upon learning of the events that occurred in Paris, Jolanda Spiess-Hegglin reacted… in French: “My God!”, she exclaimed spontaneously. Mother of three children, still in a relationship with the father through the scandal, she confides her annoyance, the fact of feeling caught up by a nightmare that she is trying to leave behind her.

Sandrine Josso’s story, is it yours?

His story touched me, moved me, obviously. But our stories are not entirely comparable.

Why not?

The events concerning me are still unclear. Nine years ago, after a memory lapse lasting several hours, an investigation was opened against two UDC for sexual acts against a person incapable of resistance.

Who made the matter public?

Four days after my hospitalization, details of the medical report sent to the judicial police made the front page of “Blick”, which headlined on Christmas Eve about a “sex scandal” with this question: “Did he he raped?” I probably would never have spoken about this traumatic affair to my parents and the person who informed the boulevard press was not worried, even though it was clearly a violation of official secrecy.

Did you recover any memory?

What happened that night has never been clarified, but to this day I suspect that a UDC and I were given a numbing substance that could not be detected after a endless waiting at the hospital and a succession of breakdowns.

No trace of GHB, but DNA?

Yes, a DNA fingerprint found in my vagina was traced to UDC, and another was taken from my underwear and under my fingernails. This remains unknown: although male, this DNA was not compared to that of the second suspect. The procedure ended with this uncertainty, incomprehensible to me.

Ultimately?

All charges have been dropped, but according to the judicial authorities, I can consider myself to be the victim of an attack on my sexual integrity. This is a conclusion that I have accepted, unlike those who see the world in black and white, especially in the media.

Do you still trust justice?

Again, yes. There was a time when I felt helpless in the face of a flood of hatred and a campaign of misinformation. The Swiss judicial system works, but I still have a case pending before the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg. My family and I are fighting until justice is done.

What about politics?

I no longer do politics in the strict sense of the term, it’s beyond my strength. But I can act more effectively than at the time of the Grand Council of Zug by fighting for judgments that set precedent, with social and societal impact.

That of Strasbourg, for example?

Not only. Several procedures are pending, with the potential for societal improvements. The most important lawsuit is the one brought against “Blick” and its publisher “Ringier” over a profit reduction: the profits made by invasions of private life should be returned to the victims, which would be likely to modify the press of boulevard.

What is your struggle?

The creation of the platform “Netzcourage» allows us to help victims of cyberharassment and alongside this consultation service, I support victims of media campaigns. A defamation lawsuit is underway against the author of a book about me and several legal proceedings are nearing completion.

Were you treated like a victim?

I see enormous societal progress. However, when it comes to violence, women quickly move from the status of victim to that of perpetrator, particularly on social networks.

What do you recommend to Sandrine Josso?

To seek support at all costs and accept the help offered. Warning: social networks are the playground of delinquents, malicious people, lecturers, know-it-alls… This has been my reality for almost ten years.

What else?

In my case, the authorities responsible for the investigation were influenced by sensational articles which pushed them to inform in a hurry. This pressure led to errors and omissions.

Did you suffer from it?

The media world is not devoid of professionals who present their truth as THE truth. I see incorrect articles and hurtful comments about me online, again and again…
