2023-10-20 18:06:35

What is diabetes and what types are there?
Diabetes is a group of diseases that affect the way your body uses insulin. Insulin is a hormone that regulates sugar in your blood. The main types of diabetes are type 1, type 2 and gestational diabetes. These are the main differences:
Typ-1-Diabetes:
The body does not produce insulin. It is often diagnosed in childhood or adolescence. People with type 1 diabetes need to inject insulin or use an insulin pump.
Typ-2-Diabetes:
The body produces insulin but cannot use it properly. It is often diagnosed in adulthood, but can also occur in children. It is the most common type of diabetes and can often be controlled through diet, exercise and medication.
Gestational diabetes:
Occurs during pregnancy and may increase the risk of type 2 diabetes. It usually goes away following the baby is born, but may increase the risk of type 2 diabetes in the future.
