Understanding Hemorrhagic Stroke: New Research on Causes and Mortality Rates

Hemorrhagic stroke has a high mortality rate

Hemorrhagic stroke may occur not due to vascular damage, but due to improper interaction of red blood cells and immune cells. This was shown by the results of research by American scientists published in BioMed Central, writes Pravda.ru.

Hemorrhagic stroke is a pathological condition not associated with head trauma in which blood flows chaotically into the cranial cavity. This disease is not as common as ischemic stroke, but has a high mortality rate.

It is generally accepted that the cause of such hemorrhage is damage to the blood vessels of the brain. However, new research disproves this theory.

In fact, hemorrhagic stroke occurs due to a disruption in the functioning of red blood cells. These cells are hemoglobin transporters and are responsible for metabolism in organs and tissues.

Sticking of red blood cells in capillaries initiates their absorption by immune cells by macrophages. Scientists have found that excessive interaction of macrophages with red blood cells can contribute to cerebral hemorrhage, even if the vessel walls are not damaged.

Additional research is needed for a more in-depth analysis.
