More than 35 people, Rotarians and friends attended the monthly conference of the Rotary Club of Figeac on Friday January 12, the theme of which was multiple sclerosis. Guests were Marie-Gabrielle Altério, general director of the foundation for research into this disease (ARSEP www.arsep.org) and Jean-Marc Boulesteix, neurologist at Cahors hospital.

After presenting her association recognized as being of public utility, Marie-Gabrielle Altério specified that ARSEP had, since its creation, financed 750 researchers for an amount of 30 million euros.

Doctor Boulesteix gave a fascinating presentation on the origin of the disease which affects 100,000 French people, its different forms and treatments to improve the comfort of patients. This pathology is complex with genetic, temporal (depending on the age of the patients), geographic and clinical aspects. Research is global and it seems that an approach via artificial intelligence is one of the ways of progress to better understand the factors that cause the disease. Invited patients and their families were able to ask questions, to which Doctor Boulesteix answered with tact and precision.
