Understanding the Curious Manipulations and Pathogenic Mutations of the Sars-CoV-2 Cousin Virus

DECRYPTION – Curious manipulations have favored the appearance of extremely pathogenic mutations in a coronavirus cousin of Sars-CoV-2. The experience worries many specialists.

A virus, a pangolin, a Chinese laboratory… A picture that brings back bad memories. And this, especially since this virus, cousin of Sars-CoV-2, would have a much greater lethality. Discovered in 2017 in pangolins, this coronavirus is known as GX_P2V. After manipulation by scientists at Beijing University of Chemical Technology, it acquired genetic mutations that allow it to infect human cells and humanized transgenic mice. This work is presented in an article posted online on the BioRxiv website, and have therefore not yet been reread by the scientific community with the aim of being published in a specialized journal.
