The thyroid gland is a small, symmetrical organ that resembles a butterfly in appearance. In normal condition thyroid mass is between 20 and 65 grams, and the size of the shares depends on age and sex characteristics. In adolescents, it can increase, while in older people, on the contrary, it can decrease. The thyroid gland can also change its size during pregnancy, but following 6-12 months following childbirth, everything returns to normal without any treatment.
