Dutch defender Virgil van Dijk of Liverpool admitted that his Egyptian colleague Mohamed Salah was affected by the negotiations to renew his contract at the end of last season, but he returned to play once more with a “comfortable mind”, as he described it.
Salah contributed to his team winning the Community Shield at the expense of Manchester City, with three goals to one, following scoring one goal and making another on Saturday evening.
Until the end of February, Salah scored 27 goals during all of Liverpool’s competitions last season, and then scored his opponents only 4 times in the last 20 meetings of the Reds during the season during the negotiations of his new contract.
Van Dijk said in statements carried by the “Liverpool Echo”: “I think Salah has proven his efficiency over the past years, he is always under the “microscope” and he created this for himself, he is a great player and he always proves that.
He continued: During the end of last season and since April in particular, Salah was affected by the negotiations to renew his contract, unfortunately, we are all human in the end, now everything is clear, he plays with a comfortable and happy mind to be here, and everyone is happy too.
Salah renewed his contract with the “Reds” until 2025, and press reports revealed that his weekly salary is 350 thousand pounds per week.
