Unification of WWE Women’s Championship and NXT Tag Team Belts: Latest Updates and Rumors

2023-06-12 07:00:00

As you know, last Friday during SmackDown, Adam Pearce unveiled the new women’s belt held by Asuka which will now bear the name “WWE Women’s Championship” or the WWE women’s title in good French.

An inside source confirms that this change is obviously to fix the issues since the Draft with the RAW Women’s Championship that was on SmackDown and vice versa. The company did not want to do like the last time there was a Draft and exchange the belts between the champions, which had ended days of reigns for the two titles.

Additionally, WWE wanted Asuka’s belt to resemble Roman Reigns’ to help portray her on an even footing as much as possible.

In closing, we learn that the SmackDown women’s title held by Rhea Ripley will also change its name and/or belt. Officially, Rhea Ripley’s Championship still remains the SmackDown Women’s Title for the time being.

On Friday, June 23 on SmackDown, Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler will team up to take on Alba Fyre and Isla Dawn in a tag team match, where the winners will unify the main roster and NXT tag team belts.

According to our source, several people within NXT had already not understood for the NXT tag team titles had been created. It is rumored that WWE had been planning to unify the belts since last April when the Draft took place.

It is added that Tag Team Champions will be able to appear in NXT in the future as they have in the past although it can be counted on the fingers of one hand the number of times this has happened.

Inside sources say that the unification of the titles could have been done faster if it hadn’t been for the various injuries in the women’s division that took longer.
