Unifor, which represents about 5,600 Canadian auto workers, said Friday the union unanimously approved the tentative agreement with Ford.
Gains were made on wages, retirement and benefits, according to John Agnolo, Unifor Ford’s chief negotiator.
The union that represents Ford employees in Canada announced Tuesday evening that it had reached this agreement, concerning employees of factories and distribution centers in Ontario and Alberta.
We believe that this agreement will solidify the foundations on which we will continue to negotiate gains for generations of auto workers in Canada, said Unifor President Lana Payne in a written statement.
However, the details of the agreement have not yet been made public.
Meanwhile, in the United States, the strike spread at American car manufacturers General Motors and Stellantis, due to lack of progress in union negotiations. Since Friday noon, the 38 spare parts distribution centers of these two manufacturers have been affected.
President Joe Biden, who calls himself the leading supporter of American unions, will travel to Michigan on Tuesday on a picket line, as a sign of solidarity.
