Teiber: “Hundredth empty announcement brings nothing”

Vienna (OTS) Barbara Teiber, Chairwoman of the GPA trade union, welcomes Vice Chancellor Kogler’s initiative to introduce a millionaire tax, which the GPA has been demanding for years: “There is a lack of money in many areas, and the challenges of the future are enormous. We can only combat the imbalance in the tax system if millionaires and billionaires finally make their fair contribution.” ++++

“Employees and consumers pay 80 percent of taxes. It is high time that we ask those who have more than enough to pay up. Empty announcements, such as we have often heard from the green half of the government, are not enough. The topic is too important for partisan political bickering,” said Teiber.

“In Austria, the poorer half of the population owns 2.8 percent of the wealth, while the richest one percent owns 40 percent of the wealth. This imbalance is enormous. The ÖVP must finally end its blocking attitude as the protector of the rich. Polls show that the majority of ÖVP voters are also in favor of introducing millionaire taxes,” Teiber refers to a poll by the IFES Institute, which shows an approval rate of 76 percent among ÖVP voters.
