United States: Former President Jimmy Carter receives palliative care at home

According to several American media, former President of the United States Jimmy Carter is receiving palliative care at his home. He is 98 years old.

Former US President Jimmy Carter receives palliative care according to a statement from The Carter Centera foundation created by the president himself in 1982. According to the organization, “after a series of short hospital stays, the former American president decided today to spend the time he has left with his family and to receive palliative care, rather than additional medical intervention”.

The press release specifies that the Nobel Peace Prize winner in 2002 has “the support of his family and his medical team” and “asks to respect their privacy during this ordeal and thanks the support of his loyal admirers”.

Jimmy Carter, who was a Democrat, became the 39e President of the United States between 1977 and 1981. He succeeded Republican Gerald Ford and preceded Ronald Reagan, also of the Republican Party.
